Course overview

This course is also referred to as CS10311. It is the first of two courses offered to provide HSG80 foundation knowledge. The advanced course is "Implementing and Servicing RA/MA Storage Solutions II".

This course provides intensive hands-on training for installing, configuring, and servicing HSG80-based storage solutions in a Windows NT/2000 environment. It provides the HSG80-based RAID array and Modular Array foundation knowledge. This course describes how to configure storage units, configure the HSG80 controllers for fabric, set up connections to the host server through a Fibre Channel SAN switch, and load appropriate firmware and drivers to prepare a Windows 2000 host server to operate with an HSG80-based storage subsystem. This course also provides servicing considerations and instructions for replacing storage subsystem field-replaceable units (FRUs) and customer -replaceable units (CRUs).

Students will implement a small homogeneous operating system SAN using Proliant servers running a Windows 2000 operating system. Students are required to prepare the host server to operate with a StorageWorks RA8000 or MA8000 Fibre Channel Storage system in a fabric environment using Fibre Channel SAN switches qualified by HP.

Prerequisites

In order to successfully complete this course, the students must have the following knowledge:

  • RAID Technology.
  • SCSI Technology.
  • Fibre Channel Technology.
  • Windows NT/2000 Operating System Administration.

Audience

This course is primarily intended for HP Services field engineers, call center personnel, and other field personnel who provide installation and/or service support assistance.

Course objective

The primary focus of this course is to successfully connect a server running a Windows 2000 operating system to an HSG80-based storage subsystem, identify and solve problems that can occur with the subsystem, and replace failed subsystem components. It assists field engineers in servicing HSG80-based solutions.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Configure storage on an hp StorageWorks MA8000/RA8000 Fibre Channel Storage Subsystem.
  • Load array controller software (ACS) versions 8.6/8.7 and appropriate patches onto the HSG80 controllers.
  • Install and configure the HSG80 controllers for fabric.
  • Set up and change subsystem host failover modes.
  • Prepare a host server running a Windows 2000 operating system to operate with StorageWorks MA8000/RA8000 Fibre Channel storage systems in a fabric environment.
  • Establish connections and access paths, and then verify connectivity between the host and the storage subsystem.
  • Install and configure Secure Path on a Windows 2000 platform.
  • Install and configure StorageWorks Command Console.
  • Use HSG80 Command Line Interface (CLI) utilities to manage storage and resolve storage subsystem problems.
  • Troubleshoot and replace failed MA8000/RA8000 subsystem components.
