Course overview

This course provides services training on the HP StorageWorks 6000 Virtual Library System, a new disk-based SAN backup device. After an overview of the product, an in-depth description of the hardware and software components is presented. Installation, operation, configuration, upgrade licenses, troubleshooting, and field replaceable unit (FRU) remove and replace procedures are also discussed. During the lab portion of this course, the students will apply their knowledge in various tasks that include installing, cabling, creating virtual libraries, managing LUNs, monitoring, disaster recovery, and troubleshooting. The students will also remove and replace FRU components.

This course does not cover training for the following:

  • Basic SCSI interfaces
  • Basic L&TT functionality
  • Basic Command View TL functionality
  • SAN connectivity foundations
  • Backup software
  • Enterprise Backup Solutions

Prerequisites

In order to successfully complete this course, the student should have basic knowledge of the following:

  • Tape backup technologies, tape libraries, and backup software
  • Command View TL

Audience

The target audience for this course is HP Services field engineers; call center personnel, and other field personnel who provide installation and/or operational support assistance

Course objective

In this lecture/lab you will:

  • Demonstrate basic understanding of both the hardware and software components
  • Install, cable, and configure a virtual library system.
  • Test the initial setup parameter values
  • Perform typical library operations using Command View VLS
  • Monitor the VLS
  • Troubleshoot the device and perform disaster recovery tasks
  • Remove and replace critical FRUs
