Course overview

This instructor-led training course is designed to provide training for the HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array 1000 (MSA1000), MSA1500cs, and MSA1510i array systems. The course introduces the student to product positioning, features, benefits, and components of the MSA1XXX systems. Considerations for installing, configuring, and troubleshooting the systems are discussed in the lecture material and practiced in hands-on lab exercises.

The course also includes discussions of supported hardware, software, and firmware and provides background information on array systems; iSCSI networks, concepts, and terms; and the active/active controller capability for the MSA1500cs system.

Additionally, there is discussion of system configuration, management, and monitoring capabilities available through the use of various utilities supported by the array systems. Those utilities include Array Configuration Utility (ACU), Storage Management Utility (SMU), Event Monitoring Service (EMS), and Command Line Interface (CLI). This discussion also includes information on multipathing capabilities provided through HP Secure Path software, Microsoft Multipathing Input/Output (MPIO), and QLogic multipathing drivers.

In order to successfully complete this course, the student should have completed the following:

It is preferred that students also have a working knowledge of Windows, Novelle NetWare, HP-UX, or Linux operating systems.

Audience

This course is primarily intended for HP Services field engineers, call center personnel, and other field personnel who provide installation and/or operational support assistance.

Course objective

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  • Explain the product positioning, benefits, and main features of the three array systems
  • Identify, locate, and discuss the functions of the MSA1XXX hardware components discussed in the various course modules
  • Identify the software applications supported on the MSA products
  • Install, navigate, and utilize the ACU and SMU utilities
  • Identify the various configurations for the MSA products
  • Understand and utilize Command Line Interface commands
  • Discuss basic operating procedures and associated considerations
  • Demonstrate the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot a variety of problems
  • Demonstrate the ability to remove and replace key components
  • Implement Secure Path for Windows Workgroup Edition
  • Implement Microsoft MPIO/DSM

Cancellation policy

Registration may be canceled without tuition charge if Hewlett-Packard Training Registration receives notification of cancellation twenty-one business days prior to class. Cancellations made twenty to three business days prior to class will incur a $150 cancellation charge ($210 in Canada, plus applicable taxes). Cancellations made two business days prior or less to class date and/or no-shows will incur the full tuition charge.

All course offerings are dependent on classroom, equipment and instructor availability. Hewlett-Packard reserves the right to cancel or change a class at any time without liability to the attendee for costs incurred due to such cancellations or changes, including, but not limited to, cancellation penalties for transportation or accommodations.
