Course overview

This course introduces you to the HP Modular Smart Array (MSA) storage area network (SAN) solutions. The course focuses on implementing and managing an HP StorageWorks MSA1000 or MSA1500 SAN solution. In addition, you will participate in hands-on lab activities that will take you through the various stages of creating and managing an entry-level SAN solution.

Course objective

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain the benefits of an MSA solution
  • Identify the features and benefits of an MSA solution and direct attach storage (DAS) to SAN (DtS) migration
  • Identify and discuss the function of the MSA solutions hardware components.
  • Discuss the supported configurations, including restrictions, maximums, compatibility matrices, and zoning considerations
  • Recognize the manageable components and describe the use of management applications and tools for the MSA solutions
  • Describe HP StorageWorks Secure Path for the MSA solutions
  • Discuss the service and support functions for the MSA solutions
  • Install an MSA solution, including the installation of switches, hubs, drivers, and other support software
  • Install and configure Secure Path for the MSA solutions
  • Perform a DtS migration
  • Boot from a SAN with no internal server storage
  • Install and configure HP OpenView Storage Virtual Replicator
