CCI provides a multi-tiered solution that lets users log on to "desktops" which are located on PC blades in a data center. CCI is sold and marketed as a productivity solution that utilizes existing components to create a centralized, easy-to-manage solution with failover capabilities. CCI is a three-tiered architecture that consists of:
- An access tier using HP thin clients
- A compute tier with racks of blade PCs inside a data center
- A resource tier made up of a storage pool, network printers, application servers, and other networked resources, also inside the data center.
Benefits of the CCI solution include the consolidation of application resources including compute hardware, user applications, printers, and storage for easier management and reduced total cost of ownership. The new CCI version 1.5 provides many enhancements over version 1.4 including the new HP BladeSystem bc2000 and bc2500 Blade PCs which provide faster performance and more robust (integrated) graphics support, but at the same power and cooling levels as the bc1500 Blade PC, enhanced HP System Allocation Manager Software (SAM), and the new Remote Graphics Software (RGS) from HP as an alternative to Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). RGS provides greater functionality and better performance than RDP. Microsoft Windows Vista will also be available on the blades in CCI 1.5.
This course provides a solid foundation for CCI Solution Architects who need to educate and qualify customers for the CCI solution and design and set up a Small Reference Design or full deployment of 200 seats or less. Extensive labs will provide opportunity for hands-on work with the hardware and software.
